Founded in 1995, trip.'s first production was the third ever staged adaptation of Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange. At the time of production, The Royal Shakespeare Company (London), Steppenwolf (Chicago) and trip., then located in Dallas, were the only companies that had been given permission/rights by the estate of Anthony Burgess to perform the controversial satire. trip. acted as executive producer in association with wicker plane and little finger productions.
In 1996, trip. made its New York debut with the premiere of Fine, written and directed by artistic director Graham Brown at the Pulse Ensemble Theatre.
In June of 1997, trip. presented Sex, Gods and Violent Happiness, a new play with music, at the Mint Space. Sex Gods... was written and composed by a cast of twelve through a six month rehearsal process. Later that November, trip. in collaboration with The Museum of Modern Art presented Christopher Marlowe's Edward II, as part of MOMA's retrospective, Cavalcade: From British Stage to Screen.
In February of 1999, trip. in association with Nada 45 remounted Edward II as a three-week workshop production. In the fall of 1999, trip. produced Don Nigro's Seascape with Sharks and Dancer as part of the Pure Pop Festival. A week following the close of Sharks, trip. produced one of its most celebrated works to date, titled appropriately enough, tripping. Once again written by the ensemble, tripping destroyed the fourth wall with the actors performing in and literally through the audience.
During May of 2000, trip. celebrated its fifth anniversary with a party and benefit performance of Chepooka in the gallery space at the Access Theatre. During June of 2000 trip. performed a staged reading of an updated version of tripping at the John Harmes Center in Englewood, NJ . trip. hosted an informal workshop reading of here's something, a new script for television at the Lark Theater Space in October of 2000. Also in October of 2000, trip. staged a benefit party including a performance of the sexual politics of blue jays wearing little plastic pants at Shetler Studios, in the Lark Theater space. The party also featured the spins of fabulous DJ Vincent Dinaire. Blue Jays, an ensemble script, was then presented as part of the Beaten Path Variety Series in Hoboken, NJ.
During May of 2001, trip. presented a limited run of the original playfinding gräfenberg as part of the Out On A Limb series at the Blue Heron Arts Center. gräfenberg was made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, as well as the generous gifts of individual donors, and enjoyed sold out audiences for the length of the run. Due to the overwhelming response. trip. was invited back to The Blue Heron for a three week run of finding gräfenberg during October of 2001.
In the early part of 2002, trip. filmed its first short film, Clarity. Later that August, Clarity was presented with a new play, trip., wrapped in America at The Parlour on the Upper West Side. Since then Clarity has gone on to appear in numerous film festivals around the country.
The Alice Project , trip’s second short film, premiered in August 2003 at Void in SoHo. The same evening saw the performance of trip. over sexy, an original live performance with several new members of the trip. ensemble. Trip. was invited back to Void in October 2003 for a second showing of The Alice Project presented with the live performance of amalgams, a celebration of eight years of tripping.
In March of 2004 trip. along with co-producer David Anthony presented a two month run of the hit original play, finding gräfenberg at The Second Story Theatre in Soho..
The next trip. occurred in New York's East Village in October of 2004. A workshop production of 4PLAY Sex in Series an episodic romantic comedy was presented over a 4 week period. In December of that year trip presented the stage version of the lost monolouges at the Brookyn bar, Soda. In early 2005, the filmed version of Monologues was released as a short film series. In July of 2005, trip went back to Brooklyn, this time at the wine bar Half, to workshop just one of those things. That September, trip. celebrated 10 years of tripping with a Black & White Party with DJ Steven Wachel .In November trip. brought back 4PLAY Sex in Series for a six week run This time at Lucky Jack's in New York's Lower East side, 4Play was a hit with both audiences and critics alike.
In the Summer of 2009 trip. presented 4Play as workshop production at Shetler studios in midtown Manhattan. 2011 brought trip.'s Sweet Sixteen with 16 Short films celebrating 16 years of tripping. January 2012 it's a brand new trip., hope... @ the Gowanus Ballroom in Brooklyn.
In February of 2012, trip. moved to Chicago and shot the the short film Enter The Dragon In March of 2013, trip. brought hope... to the Chicago Arts District with a two night run @ The rooms Gallery. Later in October trip. introduced a new piece and several new company members with Monkey Pants on @ The Fulton Street Collective. And in November, trip. presented It's not a Happening at the home of trip. board members David Wagner and Gigi Vafis.
February 2014 saw trip.s first full production in Chicago, the Midwest premier of 4PLAY sex in a series. Performing in front of sold out houses, 4PLAY was a hit with audiences as well as the Chicago Critics.In December, trip. presented It's a Holiday Thing featuring The Eric Hochberg Jazz trio. finding gräfenberg, In conjunction with Chicago's Theatre Week, was staged at The Hairpin Arts Center in February of 2015.
trip. set up shop in Los Angles in 2017 with the West Coast Premiere of 4PLAY Sex in Series @ The Actors Company in West Holywood. In the summer of 2018 trip. returned to the Actors Company for a staged reading of the televison pilot, something about bubbles. In 2019 episone one, "LoofahFacedShit Gibbon" was shot in Los Angeles. "bubbles" went on to the festival circuit (2020/2021), winning 42 IMBD qualifying awards.
